How to Compare License Tracking Tools
Tools that track licenses and CME differ less in their feature lists than in where your data lives and how much you can trust their rules data.
Questions about data
- Where are my records stored, and who can read them?
- Is there an account, and what happens to my data if the company closes?
- Can I export everything in an open format?
- Are documents scanned on my device or sent to a service?
Questions about requirement data
- Where does the state requirement data come from?
- Does the tool show when each state was last checked?
- Does it say plainly when an entry is unverified?
- How are corrections made?
Questions about fit
- Does it support my profession and every state where I hold a license?
- Does it work on the devices I use?
- What does it cost for one person and for a team?
Questions about the vendor
Look for a clear privacy policy, a security description and an honest statement of what the tool does not do. Be cautious about any tool that promises to guarantee compliance, because compliance depends on your own actions.
